Before The Debunking ...
President Howard had a little time before the Debunking to review his Presidential Year. He expressed his appreciation to the many leaders in our Club, and provided gifts of sweetness - Dick Taylor Chocolates!

He reminded us of our Mission Statement: "We are an organization of leaders from the local business, professional, and civic community meeting weekly in fellowship; with high ethical standards (4-Way Test), dedicated to hands-on service above self to those in need in the local and global communities, and promoting international understanding, goodwill, and peace."

He stated that we achieved our goals for the year - (1) to have weekly Club meetings that are fun, high-energy, informative, entertaining, and inspiring; (2) to have 100% hands-on engagement of Club members in committee activities and in projects and fundraisers, with a minimum of 80% participation in leadership roles; (3) to have meaningful community projects, such as our work at the Manila Family Resource Center, Backpacks for Kids, Adopt-a-Highway, and our support for Pastels on the Plaza, among many others; and (4) to participate in international efforts, including co-sponsoring the Costa Rica Microcredit Project, supporting the Shoes That Grow initiative, helping provide fresh water to the residents of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, providing support for family planning workshops in Afghanistan, and helping a local doctor to provide textbooks for students in Haiti.

President Howard reminded us of all the contributions that our Committees have made throughout the year, and he praised his Board of Directors:
  • Club Service Director Terri Clark
  • Community Service Director Scott Heller
  • International Service Director Maggie Kraft
  • Vocational Service Director Ray Noggle
  • New Generations Service Director Dustin Littlefield
Howard thanked us all for our participation and dedication, saying, "it's been a great year - service, fun, and fellowship".

About That Debunking ...
Past President Barbara Browning took over at this point, and the Debunking began with Lori Breyer presenting (soon-to-be-Past-) President Howard with a brand-new Captain Infinity shirt, bearing the following formula: <∞. He also received new headgear, a shiny colander adorned with two bicycle horns and a pointing hand (patterned after the mouse pointing finger that we frequently saw amidst the videos shown during the year).

Howard then played a rousing game of "Are You Smarter Than A 12-Year Old?", in which he was throughly trounced by Rotary Kid Mary Crow.

We then moved to the pit, where Howard and First Lady Rebecca performed a very impressive tango:

This was followed by a performance by Jazz Pianist Howard, with help from the rest of his combo. Below is the link to the video of their rendition of "Autumn Leaves":

The traditional Debunking Song was performed by "Sonny and the Sunrisers", featuring Ian Schatz and Dick Johnson:

The program ended with Barbara presenting Howard with his Past President pin, and all of us providing him with a well-deserved ovation. Howard rang the bell as he adjourned another great Rotary Club of Arcata Sunrise year.

Thank you, President Howard!!
