A Noëmi Moment
Exchange Student Noëmi Schönenberger said that it had been a busy week - she had traveled to the Bay Area with Lori Breyer and family. They spent time in The City ("I really love San Francisco!"), and also in Pacific Grove. The travelers also visited Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Noëmi will soon be on her way again, this time to Hawaii! The Club wanted to help defray her expenses, so we passed the hat - a shark hat.

On Wednesday, April 18th, Lacy J. Dalton will headline "The Concert to End Polio Now". The event will take place at the Spreckles Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park, and all proceeds will benefit Rotary International's Polio Plus program. Rotarian of the Month
Ceva Courtemanche is President Scott's selection for Rotarian of the Month. Ceva took on the Spring Fundraiser's live auction, and this year, she's co-chairing the whole shebang with Dan Johnson! Hats off to a great Sunriser!!
It's Circus Time!!!!
Virtually everything is in place and ready for our Spring Fundraiser, Dan Johnson told us last week. This will be the year that we exceed the $1 million mark for the event. He said that there are only two fundraisers in Humboldt County that gross more than ours, but ours is the only one that utilizes 100% volunteers.
We will be "dark" this Friday, but we will be setting up the venue both Friday and Saturday. There are a number of tasks that still need to be filled for the event itself - we need greeters and raffle ticket sellers, for example. Check the Sign-up Genius site for ways you can help.
Recognitions with Bob Johnson Orrin Plocher?
Bob Johnson relinquished his duties as Recognition Master to an enthusiastic Orrin Plocher last Friday. Orrin started with a two-fer ... he asked Ron Sharp and Barbara Browning to talk about their move to Blue Lake the previous weekend.
Ron said that they had 12 people helping them move, and it all went well. They did experience some thermal discomfort - their new home has no heat. Ron and Barbara made do with space heaters, however, so the story ended happily.
Last Friday was Bryan Reeser's birthday, but he wasn't certain how it would all play out. "I haven't figured it out yet," he said. It will be a surprise, but it was no surprise that we sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
We had another go at the song when it was revealed that Julie Schaefer's birthday was February 11th. Julie said that she is postponing her party until her daughter can celebrate with her. We didn't wait, though.
Orrin asked for Good News, and someone suggested that Dan Johnson tell us about his recent snowmobiling trip. Dan said that he and his family enjoyed the trip without incident, but there was a guy at the resort who had been riding his snowmobile on a restricted hill who was caught in an avalanche. The machine was totaled, but he survived thanks to a device he had that inflated, creating an air pocket and activating a beacon to signal rescuers.
Bob Moore said that his daughter's basketball team (which includes Dan's daughter) held a party before a recent game. The party was fun for the girls, but a little traumatic for Dan's son (and for Dan, as well). Somehow, Dan's truck struck a tree, deploying its airbags. Oops!
